Official Resolution as the Nation’s First Conference Center
Strategic Meeting at Tarrytown House
Previously owned by Mary Duke Biddle, the Estate originally dates back to 1840. This historically charming property, located just 25 miles from midtown Manhattan, was acquired in 1964 when visionary and journalist Robert Schwartz answered a need to create a focused environment to share, learn and develop new leadership techniques, strategies and synergies. Schwartz, who served as New York Bureau Chief at Time and Life Magazines, received encouragement from supporters at IBM and AT&T and embarked on his idea while revolutionizing the executive training and meetings industry. In 2006 the International Association of Conference Centers (IACC) issued a proclamation certifying Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center as the Nation’s First Conference Center. Furthermore IACC recognized the critical role the property has had in the creation of the Conference Center concept which now represents 350 IACC properties worldwide.
Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center joined the Destination Hotels & Resorts portfolio in 2005 to assist in the tradition of excellence and service that the property has become recognized for in the industry. The management company along with property owners have shown its commitment through continued enhancements to meet the expectation of the modern conference attendee.
Join us in recognizing 50 years of excellence at the Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center as we mark this milestone with exciting celebrations.
