Cellar 49 is a cozy yet energetic tavern, providing a casual atmosphere with a modern twist on American fare. Located on the grounds of the Tarrytown House Estate, Cellar 49 was the original "cellar" in the historic Biddle Mansion.
In order to preserve the cozy and intimate feel of Cellar 49, reservations are required.
The setting of stone columns and brick walls along with a rich mahogany bar and crackling fireplace create the warm setting of our lower Hudson Valley restaurant.
Cellar 49's menu highlights our modern twist on classic tavern fare, taking the best of the bounty that the Hudson Valley has to offer. Then pair your meal with one of our craft beers or unique small production wines that you won't find in your local wine shop and you've got the makings of a memorable lunch or dinner.
ABOUT US & QUESTIONS WE OFTEN RECEIVE
Cellar 49 is a casual, small yet energetic tavern featuring modern twists on American fare. It is located on the grounds of Tarrytown House Estate in the cellar of the historic Biddle House Mansion.
WHAT DOES CELLAR 49 MEAN? Well, cellar for 2 reasons: 1.The tavern is located in the cellar of the Biddle Mansion. 2. We are proud of our wine cellar and the special, small production wines we keep there. 49 because that's our address, pretty simple!
WHAT SHOULD I DO WHEN I GET THERE? When you arrive on the grounds of Tarrytown House follow signs for reserved parking for Cellar 49, then head towards the Biddle House Mansion. Go past the stone archway, where you will find a canopied entrance, we are a flight down ... sort of like that TV show Cheers!
WHO RUNS THE PLACE? John McGuirk is the Tavern GM, Chris Hettinger oversees the kitchen. Ask for them and please say hello, chances are you won't miss John!
HOW DO I GET A TABLE IN YOUR 36 SEAT TAVERN? We leave a miniscule amount of tables for walk-ins. Since we are pretty small we ask that you reserve up to 30 days in advance, online is the best way to go, do it here Cellar 49 Reservations . We do dinner every day 5pm - 10pm and lunch Friday, Saturday and Sunday 12pm - 4pm. We accept reservations of up to 4 guests.
WHAT'S GOOD TO EAT THERE, WHAT'S IT LIKE? We cook tavern food that makes us (and hopefully you) happy. Things like mussels steamed in local beer, dry aged steaks, fried chicken and homemade doughnuts. We feel food should be fun, unpretentious and is best enjoyed when sampled and shared; we design our menus with this in mind.. Chris and John partner with local suppliers to utilize seasonal ingredients and products. We can accommodate most dietary or allergic restrictions. You really need to check out our full menu here Cellar 49 Spring Summer Dinner . Expect a casual yet refined atmosphere ... think James Taylor playing in the background while you sip on a glass of Santa Cruz Pinot Noir
WHAT SHOULD I DRINK? Happy you asked. Our list is extensive; you'll enjoy our cocktails mixed with infused spirits along with rare scotches, bourbons and cognacs. We have a pretty cool selection of local beers by the bottle or on tap. Wine is a focal point but we're not snobby about it. Our wine program encourages you to try something out of your comfort zone and memorable ... no white zins, unless you really, really insist!
HOW SHOULD I DRESS? Let's see, the 60's ended quite some time ago so leave the tie-dies, flip flops, shorts and tanks at home. A pair of nice jeans or slacks along with a shirt (preferably with sleeves) will make us and your fellow tavern guests happy!
IS THERE A CORKAGE FEE? We take pride in our list as it features many unique, interesting and food focused wines at very reasonable prices. We ask that you choose one (or more) of our wines but if you wanted to bring something we would charge you $40 for corkage with a 2 bottle limit. Take a look here Cellar 49 Wines Spring
WHAT IF I NEED SOME PRIVACY? Our Wine Cellar seats up to 10 guests and the private dining room accommodates 35 guests. You can reserve these spaces Sunday through Thursday. If you need private space on weekends or for larger events give the Tarrytown House Catering team a call at (914) 591-3105.
