A Wahington Irving's short story of The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, tells the spooky tale about a man who had died many years ago during the American Revolutionary War by having his head shot off. Every night he rises from his burial place, jumps on his horse and rides through the valley looking for his lost head.
A Paying homage to The Legend of Sleepy Hollow, Washington Irving is buried in Sleepy Hollow Cemetery, adjacent to the Old Dutch Church which is the very place the headless horseman character was buried in his tale. Washington Irving is laid to rest in the southern end of the cemetery in a plot overlooking the old church and its burying ground.
