Nothing Sleepy About It! Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center Nears Completion of Historic Tavern Restoration
Tarrytown, NY - April 11, 2008-- The restoration of the 19th Century, English-style tavern nears completion at Tarrytown House Estate & Conference Center, managed by Destination Hotels & Resorts. The renovated facility will be known as "Cellar 49 - A Tavern at the Mansion."
The conversion to a tavern/grill was undertaken based on customer feedback and the need for a more casual, lighter dining option in comfortable surroundings. Large mahogany tables, leather easy chairs and sofas will be placed around Cellar 49, along with a solid mahogany bar and flat screen televisions. The restoration and redesign's finishing touches include plush leather couches, with traditional finishes of washed brick, aged Turkish travertine tile, stamped copper ceilings and dark mahogany woods. The nation's first and finest conference center has learned, from extensive customer research and input, to listen and act on the input of its customers.
"With Generation Xers assuming prominent roles in management we've heard requests for more casual dining options, particularly on the day of arrival or on the final night of their visit to Tarrytown House Estate," explained general manager Joe Santore. "While they appreciate our daily, elegant buffets in the Winter Palace dining room, our guests asked for a place to relax and select from a menu."
Among the soon-to-be favorites on Cellar 49's new lunch and dinner menus are big (Lobster and Chips, Truffle Mac and Cheese) and small (Crostini Sampler, Jumbo Shrimp Bloody Mary) plates, soups, salads and desserts. Dinner will be served daily, and all day dining is available on Saturdays & Sundays when Cellar 49 re-opens on April 15th. A full bar will offer a wide selection of beers, including local Hudson Valley microbrews, an extensive collection of wines by the glass, including many unique and hard to find selections.
Cellar 49 is located in the Biddle Mansion on this 26-acre estate and dates back to 1895. It still features its original granite pillars and a cozy working fireplace. The restoration has uncovered some hidden touches previously unknown. As the old sheet rock and paneling was being removed, brick arches granite pillars, 120 year-old windows and sills were discovered and subsequently, were incorporated into the design. The former bowling alley has been converted to a wine cellar and private dining room, located just off the main dining room of the restaurant. The tavern's décor will combine modern accents with items rich in local historical significance, including travertine stone and hardwood floors.
