Pastry Chef Stephanie Doerner featured on WE TV’s “Amazing Wedding Cakes” is now creating masterpieces at Tarrytown House

Tarrytown, NY (April 2010) – From rolled fondant specialty cakes to elegant multi-tiered masterpieces decorated with blown sugar, Stephanie Doerner has done it all. And now she’s doing it at the Tarrytown House Estate.

From rolled fondant specialty cakes to elegant multi-tiered masterpieces decorated with blown sugar, Stephanie Doerner has done it all. And now she’s doing it at the Tarrytown House Estate.

Pastry Chef Doerner, who started work this week at Tarrytown House Estate, comes from Cake Alchemy in New York City, a high-end bakery featured on WE TV network’s “Amazing Wedding Cakes.”

She hopes to work her magic at the Tarrytown House Estate, one on the Hudson Valley’s most elegant wedding sites.

“Stephanie comes to us with an impressive background and is a true artist,’’ said Richard Porteus, Director of Food & Beverage for the Tarrytown House Estate. “Her work is special and we know that she will do her utmost to wow our guests with her creations.”

Chef Doerner said that baking has always been her first love, and that she has tried to combine this gift with her interest in business. While at Cake Alchemy, where she served as Exec Cake Decorator and Pastry Chef, she was featured in several episodes of “Amazing Wedding Cakes,” which explored the finer art of designing high-end cakes for special occasions. Prior to that she worked for Publisher John Wiley and Sons, where she served as Assistant to the VP of Global Rights, helping to coordinate the rights for various cookbooks. She also worked as a production apprentice at CocaVino in Brooklyn, NY, where she produced artisanal chocolates and confections.

“I am really pleased to be joining Tarrytown House Estate,’’ said Chef Doerner. “It’s a prestigious property where I can create the type of showpiece work that I am accustomed to, but I am also excited about preparing specialty desserts for the hotel guests.’’

Chef Doerner created a runway showpiece for the 11th annual NY Chocolate Fashion Show and assisted at Food Network’s Extreme Wedding Cake Competition. Her body of work includes rolled fondant wedding cakes, specialty cakes, chocolate sculptures, blown sugar work, piping, sugar paste flowers and more. She is also skilled in creating dough, baking quick breads, cookies, brownies and other desserts.

She graduated from The French Culinary Institute where she earned a Grande Diplome in Classic Pastry Arts. She also attended Elon University where she earned a degree from Martha and Spencer Love School of Business.

Set on 26 acres overlooking the picturesque Hudson River Valley, the Tarrytown House Estate has always been a popular destination for nuptials. Its 19th-century elegance has long suggested an enchanted setting for a “storybook” Hudson Valley wedding. The estate’s King Mansion, Biddle Mansion and Mary Duke Ballroom are still the most popular places for wedding receptions. The castle-like Biddle Mansion was once the private home of Mary Duke Biddle of the Duke Tobacco family of North Carolina, hosting various dignitaries, society events, balls and cotillions, as well as thousands of weddings, since 1895.

Located just 25 miles from midtown Manhattan, The Tarrytown House Estate offers a spectacular Lower Hudson Valley lodging and meeting facility that blends historical charm with modern conveniences. Perfect for business and leisure, The Tarrytown House offers extensive leisure and recreational facilities such as a fitness club, indoor and outdoor swimming pools, and tennis courts.
